Mike Townsend, pensionierter Musikinspizient des Schulbezirks von Grande Prairie, Alberta, Kanada, unterrichtete 38 Jahre lang Concert Bands, Jazz Bands und Orchester sowie die Marching Band des Ortes über 44 Jahre. Zur Zeit ist er Mitglied der Alberta Band Association, Vizepräsident

der WAMSB, Herausgeber des Newsletter für PhiBetaMu International, Präsdient der Sektion Alberta von PhiBetaMu-MuAlpha und regionaler Koordinator des MusicFest Kanada.

Mikes Bands haben Kanada vertreten in den USA, Australien, Deutschland, Schweden, Dänemark, Italien, Brasilien, China, Großbritannien und Österreich. Herr Townsend ist aktiv als internationaler Juror und Dozent in Kanada, Europa, der Karibik, Asien und Südamerika und hat kürzlich bei der Beschaffung von Instrumenten und der Schaffung von Musikprogrammen in Dominica/Karibik geholfen.

Mike war Mitglied des Präsidiums des kanadischen Musikverbandes, der Alberta Band Association, von Music Alberta und PhiBetaMu International. Mike hat Auszeichnungen erhalten wie das Tommy Banks Jazz Educators Award, die David Peterkin Ehrenmedaille der Alberta Band Association, die Vondis Miller Auszeichnung, den Verdienstorden von PhiBetaMu International und erst kürzlich die Ehrenmedaille der Königin.

Mike Townsend, Supervisor of Music (retired), Grande Prairie School District, Alberta Canada, taught concert band, jazz band, orchestra, for 38 years and community marching band for 44 years. Presently a member of Alberta Band Association, the Vice President of WAMSB International (World Association of Marching Show Bands), Newsletter Editor for PhiBetaMu International, President of the Alberta Chapter of PhiBetaMu-MuAlpha, and Regional Coordinator for MusicFest Canada.

Mike’s bands have represented Canada in the United States, Australia, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Italy, Brazil, China, United Kingdom and Austria. Mr. Townsend is active as an international adjudicator and clinician including Canada, Europe, Caribbean, Asia and South America, and has recently assisted in procuring instruments and establishing band programs in Dominica, West Indies.

Mike has served on the board of Canadian Band Directors Association, Alberta Band Association, Music Alberta and PhiBetaMu International. Mike is a recipient of the Tommy Banks Jazz Educators Award, the Alberta Band Association’s David Peterkin Award of Excellence, the Vondis Miller Legacy Award, the PhiBetaMu International Award of Merit and most recently the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal of Honour.
